TikTok Enhances Audio Messaging, Audio and Video Attachments for DMs
TikTok has enhanced its Direct Messaging to include improved audio messaging and added features that allow users to share audio and video attachments.
TikTok has added new features to its direct messaging (DM) platform, allowing you to send voice note messages of up to a minute long and forward a variety of images and videos to chats. Such updates are intended to add more details to personal conversations, making the interaction richer and more individual.
Introducing Voice Messaging
Audio messages can now be sent by pressing and holding the microphone icon for up to one minute in the composer window.
The process offers an easy-to-use interface for recording and sending audio messages, but note that releasing the microphone button instantly sends the message.
TikTok explains:
“While recording a voice message, you can choose to:
- Release the record button to send
- Swipe across to delete the recording
- Swipe up to lock the recording and continue to record without pressing and holding, then tap the Send button to send or the Delete button to discard.”
This user-friendly interface is flexible, allowing users to send voice messages at once, delete them as needed, or lock the recording and go hands-free. Additionally, voice messages can be deleted within three minutes of their dispatch.
Expanding Media Sharing
Users can now send up to nine pictures or videos as attachments in a single message on TikTok, whether they are stored in the camera roll or captured through the app’s built-in camera.
This aligns TikTok’s messaging capabilities more closely with those of other popular social applications, making communication more visual. Safety control measures allow users to avoid sending images or videos as the opening message request, thereby limiting their misuse.
As noted by TechCrunch, TikTok also blocks the availability of DMs to users who are 16 years and older, another way of protecting young users.
Growing Private Messaging Trends
These advances bring the messaging experience on TikTok in line with growing user expectations, as messaging interactions continue to expand across social platforms.
Within the last year, TikTok has continued to increase its DM functions by adding group chats, brand broadcast channels, and DMs within live streams to enhance the level of interaction.
Looking Forward
These new features introduce new, valuable opportunities for creators and users, which will likely promote more personal interaction within the app. With the expansion of communication tools, TikTok will be better equipped to address the changing demands of its growing audience.
