TikTok Launches New Mental Health App

TikTok launches new mental health and well-being resources in-app, offering users easier access to support tools, guidance, and helpful information.

TikTok has introduced a set of new in-app resources aimed at promoting mental health and encouraging healthier usage habits. These features are part of the company’s “Time and Well-Being” space, which offers users a variety of wellness activities, exercises, and educational content to help manage screen time and foster mental wellness.

In-Stream Wellness Activities for Better Digital Hygiene

The new well-being hub includes activities such as journaling prompts designed to help users set daily intentions, a soothing sound generator with rain and wave sounds, and mindful breathing exercises. These tools are integrated directly into the app, making it easier for users to practice relaxation techniques without leaving TikTok.

According to TikTok:

“Time and Well-being makes it easier than ever for our community to relax and unwind. This comes as research shows that people who use TikTok are more likely than non-users to be interested in meditation and mindfulness.”

Additionally, users can access tips from content creators on maximizing app controls like screen time limits, personalized feeds, and Family Pairing features, providing both relaxation options and educational guidance on healthy social media habits.

Growing Demand for Digital Well-Being Tools

TikTok’s recent addition of these features responds to increasing demand for mental health support within social platforms. The company reports that “tens of millions of people” have already used its diagnostic tools, such as:

  • An affirmational journal, allowing people to set their intention for the day, with more than 120 different affirmation cards to download or even share with others.
  • A soothing sound generator, featuring the sounds of rain, waves, and white noise.
  • Breathing exercises, featuring different types of mindful breathing.
  • Partnering with Experts and Launching Well-Being Missions

Partnering with Experts and Launching Well-Being Missions

In addition to the tools, TikTok has partnered with mental health experts to develop “Well-being Missions”, short activities designed to encourage healthier digital behavior.

These include challenges like:

  • To complete the “Sleep Hours Mission,” people have to stay off TikTok at night. They can also meditate during Sleep Hours to collect their badge.
  • To earn the daily screen time badge, people need to set a screen time limit and then stick to their goal.
  • Our new weekly screen time Mission prompts people to check their weekly screen time report. This is designed to help people more intentionally reflect and be aware of the time they spend on TikTok.
  • We’ve also launched a “Well-being Ambassador Mission” to reward people who invite others to explore the Well-being Missions.

Supporting Families and Responsible Use

TikTok is also enhancing features for families, allowing parents and guardians to set custom restrictions, mute notifications, and promote responsible app use through the Family Pairing tool.

The platform is promoting these options via content creators to boost awareness and encourage proactive management of screen time and social media habits.

The Time and Well-Being platform is now accessible via your Account Settings page in the app.

Bottom Line

These new features reflect TikTok’s commitment to balancing entertainment and mental wellness, fostering positive usage behaviors, and supporting healthier digital lifestyles.
