Meta Is Preparing To Announce New Smart Glasses Next Month

Meta New Smart Glasses Next Month

Meta is reported to be making final plans to launch the new model of their smart glasses with a potential event scheduled for next month.

Meta is said to be preparing to present their next generation of glasses, named “Hypernova,” at its Connect conference scheduled to take place next month. The glasses will be equipped with cameras and are expected to have heads-up displays that are integrated into the user’s field of view and will represent a significant leap beyond the current Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses.

Hypernova Smart Glasses

Sources suggest Hypernova could be an intermediary device between smart glasses and full-fledged AR devices. The most notable enhancements are Meta’s unique wrist-controlled UI that gives users new features for interaction.

Even though Meta has kept the details secret, early images were reportedly uncovered last month, revealing details regarding the display and gesture controls.

Industry analyst Mark Gurman has recently revealed new details on the glasses, including their projected weight and price

In his most recent newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman offers new details regarding Meta’s Hypernova smart glasses. The new glasses are set to weigh in at 70 grams, but they will also come with a pleasant surprise to customers: a price of around 800 dollars. This is significantly lower than previous estimates, which put the price at over $1,000, before Meta discovered ways to reduce production costs.

Meta’s Stronghold in the Smart Glasses Market

Hypernova’s launch could further strengthen Meta’s position in the field of smart glasses by building on the popularity in the market of Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which are rapidly becoming the best-selling in this category. Counterpoint Research reports that Meta had a hefty 73% of the world’s smart glasses market during the first quarter of 2025.

According to Counterpoint:

“Shipments of Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses grew over 200% YoY, reflecting strong market demand and increased manufacturing capacity at Luxottica, Meta’s key production partner. According to our channel tracker, Luxottica’s own retail networks, including online and offline Ray-Ban stores, Sunglass Hut, and LensCrafters, account for a significant portion of the product’s sales.”

Expanding the Portfolio

Meta recently announced its Oakley smart glasses, expanding its range of products. The constant innovations allow Meta to establish itself as a leading manufacturer of smart glasses ahead of the highly anticipated AR glasses launch, due in 2027.

Regularly updated models and upgrades can help improve Meta’s image and maintain interest among consumers when the AR market grows.

Competitive Landscape

Other tech giants, like Apple as well as Snapchat, are also working on AR glasses, with Snap looking to launch its product to market, possibly in advance of Meta. Despite this, Meta’s strategically planned product launch and the integration of cutting-edge features indicate that it is likely to be the leader in the long run.

Looking Forward

Meta’s highly-anticipated 2025 Connect conference, at which this announcement of a new smart glasses is expected to be held on September 17th. Technologists and those who follow the industry alike will be watching for more information about Meta’s ever-changing vision for wearables as well as AI-enhanced real-world experiences.
