How To Make Money Blogging (Your Passive Income Guide for 2024)

Last updated on 31 December, 2023 by Ravi Gupta

Summary:

A money-making blog always empowers you to achieve more through the art of blogging! But this doesn’t mean that everyone who has a blog will eventually make money.

Blogging is an acronym for value creation. A single blog post's content must have some value to be visible in searches and get the attention of an audience online. Making money through blogging appeals to many because it can be started with little investment.

There is the potential to generate several thousand dollars each month from blogging, whether you treat it as a side business or devote more time to it to make it your fixed revenue stream.

But the question is, "How to make money blogging? This guide has a detailed discussion of that.

Introduction

How much do you know about blogging?

Just a mere summary by a random person isn’t enough to describe the dazzling potential of a blog.

Recently, Bloggerspassion.com revealed its earnings in one of its blog posts, "Bloggers Income Report 2023: How Much Money Do Top Bloggers Make?"

The blog itself is currently drawing a monthly income of $18,000.

And if you believe that blogging is dead and the income potential is declining, then maybe you should think again.

One study by Social Media Today found 70% of consumers come across a company through articles.

No matter how visually influenced the young generation is, the study even discloses that over 77% of internet users read blogs.

As a result, the horizon of income is constantly expanding for bloggers because blogs aren’t going anywhere.

Is it possible to make money from blogging?

You might have heard people say, "There’s no money in blogging," which is possibly because they had a bad experience in this field.

Top bloggers don’t openly share their income; the reason can be rising competition or hesitation.

In comparison to YouTube creators or Instagram influencers, bloggers may have a diversified income pattern. That’s why some people are hesitant to reveal their income.

But this doesn’t mean that blogging has no money.

According to a survey by ProBlogger, over 4% of bloggers make over $10,000 a month. Digital Nomad Wannable found 1.9% of bloggers making above $20,000 a month.

One such study by Orbit Media tested bloggers' perspectives about their blogging journey and found that 75% of bloggers feel that their blogs are successful.

How Much Can Bloggers Earn?

The difficulty with this topic is that blogger incomes can vary a lot. Some people earn nothing, some earn $1000 a month, and celebrity bloggers can readily attract anything between $35,000 and $100,000 per month.

Although it's difficult to give an exact estimation of the money that bloggers make, it describes blogging's potential. But luckily, we have a list of some bloggers who have found a big fortune in this sector.

Make Money Blogging

As you can see, the compound income of Adam Enfroy from his blog, adamenfroy.com, is around $4.5 million per year. Surprisingly, the blog’s major income sources are just affiliate marketing and courses.

Anil Agarwal’s blog BloggerPassion.com's estimated income is $226,000 per year, despite the fact that the blog’s major income source is affiliate products and sponsorships alone.

However, other blogs have diversified income sources and are drawing an attractive income per month.

If we distinguish bloggers' earnings based on niches, then we can discover some eye-opening statistics.

Bloggers frequently want to know about the earning potential of blogs in one niche compared to another.

Blogs about food and personal finance were the most popular among people with a median income. The typical monthly income for the food bloggers stands at $9,169, and for the personal finance bloggers, it is $9,100.

Second and fourth places were occupied by the lifestyle/mommy blog niche ($5174) and the travel blog niche ($5000), respectively.

HIGHEST EARNING BLOG NICHES

If we talk about food or lifestyle blogs, the majority of their viewership comes from posts containing recipes. But it's quite interesting; take that into consideration for a second. Two of the top four highest-earning niches, which make up a total of four, are extremely dependent on a single post category.

The share of activity that has been associated with recipe posts in the food and lifestyle niches is outstanding. Similarly, each niche does have a specific collection of topic pillars that are responsible for the majority of their traffic.

Based on the results of another study, advertisements are responsible for 42% of bloggers' income that are working in the food niche, whereas affiliate associations only provide 10% of the income. This is by far the most substantial difference between the revenue generated by advertisements and that generated by affiliate links when compared to other prevalent blog categories.

So, How to Make Money Online in Blogging?

Now that you are so inspired by the blogging potential, it’s time to break down the complete process of starting a money-making blog.

Identify your niche:

Blogs tend to do best when they focus on a narrower topic or a particular area of interest. Picking a topic you're deeply interested in will make it easier to produce high-quality content and win over readers.

Align your expertise with the niche:

After you have decided on a specific area of specialisation, the next step is to evaluate your knowledge and abilities in connection with that niche. By doing this, you will be able to present your audience with useful data. Given the knowledge you have, you will also be able to position yourself as a leader in your field, which is absolutely necessary if you want to attract readers.

Build an audience:

The expansion of your audience is an essential component in the process of site monetization. Generating content that is of high quality, interesting, and compelling for your target audience will help you achieve this goal. Increasing your blog's exposure in search engine results can be managed through the implementation of search engine optimisation (SEO) approaches. In case you wish to expand the audience that sees your content even further, you ought to market it on social media, participate in guest postings, and network with other bloggers.

Start with just one monetization tool:

To get started monetizing your blog, you should concentrate on any single option that is appropriate for your own niche-specific audience. This may involve display advertising (such as Google AdSense), sponsored content (in which you cooperate with sponsors for sponsored posts or product reviews), or affiliate marketing (in which you promote products or services and earn a fee on sales). Choose the form of monetization that works best for your blog, and then begin carefully.

Diversify your income stream:

Once you've established a solid foundation with one monetization tool, consider diversifying your income streams. This can involve incorporating additional monetization methods that complement your primary ones. For example, if you primarily rely on affiliate marketing, you can also offer consulting services or create and sell digital products related to your niche. Diversifying your income stream can help protect against fluctuations in one specific area and maximise your earning potential.

Remember, building a profitable blog takes time, consistency, and perseverance. It's important to focus on providing value to your audience and continuously improving your content and marketing strategies. As your blog grows, you can explore more advanced monetization strategies and opportunities to increase your income. As such, given below are the different ways to make money from blogging.

10 Different Ways How to Make Money from Blogging

Let’s take a look at the ways that will help you make money from your blog.

1.     Google Adsense

Google AdSense is often considered one of the top monetization tools for bloggers for several reasons. The first is the availability of an extensive network of advertisers, which means there is a higher likelihood of finding relevant and high-paying ads for your blog. The platform connects bloggers with advertisers from various industries, increasing their chances of earning revenue through ad clicks or impressions.

Also, setting up Google AdSense on your blog is relatively simple and user-friendly. Once you sign up and get approved, you can generate ad codes that can be easily integrated into your blog's design. Google's system automatically displays ads that are contextually relevant to your content, improving the overall user experience.

Once the ads are set up, you don't have to actively manage them or negotiate with individual advertisers. As long as you continue producing quality content and attracting traffic to your blog, you can generate revenue from ad clicks and impressions.

Moreover, Google AdSense offers a reliable and secure payment system. You can choose from various payment options, including direct bank transfers, checks, or electronic funds transfers (EFT). However, it is sometimes tough for newbies to get their AdSense account approved.

2. Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a surefire way to monetize your blog from day 1. You can earn money by promoting other people's products.

Affiliate marketing entails recommending a product or service to your audience through the use of unique tracking links in exchange for a percentage of the income from any sales made.

And the best part is that you can become an affiliate for many different types of online businesses. Any niche can find an appropriate affiliate program.

To launch an affiliate marketing campaign, consider which of the products you currently buy and use. The next step is to check if they offer an affiliate program, and if so, join it. But make sure your blog is relevant to their product for maximum conversion.

Online marketplaces, including Amazon, CJ, and ShareASale, are some of the famous platforms offering attractive affiliate commissions. Simply obtain your affiliate link from their website, insert links into posts, market them, and track the success of each link.

Making money through affiliate marketing is simple because there are so many goods to sell. Almost all major retailers offer affiliate programs, including Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and others.

3. Sell Ad Space

Setting up Google AdSense is simple, but the potential earnings are low in some niches. Ad-click earnings are not standardised.

But luckily, your blog is never short of opportunities. You can still make money by selling banner ads directly from your website. This way, you can also save money by handling all of the negotiations yourself, eliminating the need for a middleman like Google AdSense.

However, unlike Google AdSense, managing direct ad sales requires more time and effort. You won't just be able to slap some code on your site; you'll need to discuss pricing and terms and handle paperwork like invoices.

However, things can be simplified by installing a WordPress plugin for ad administration.

4. Sponsored Blog Posts

Some site owners don't want to show ads to their readers and ask for other ways to make money.

If you use an ad network, you might expect to have fewer options over what appears on your site. Some readers may find advertisements offensive. That’s why an increasing number of individuals are turning to ad blockers, reducing your potential revenue.

But blog sponsorships are another option for making money from a blog. Just like in TV sports, on reality TV shows, or in other fields, a business might benefit from having a sponsor. A firm will pay you to make recommendations for their blog posts online and may or may not require you to share your thoughts about them with your audience.

Making your site more enticing to advertisers by creating a one-page media kit that highlights your site's traffic and other demographics is a smart way of introducing your blog to a large section of people looking for sponsored blog posts.

5. Accept Donations

If your audience enjoys the knowledge you bring, there will be occasions when they will willingly give you a donation if you simply ask for it.

There is nothing inappropriate with requesting monetary support from individuals in exchange for the value of content that is both interesting and useful and free of charge. Even widely used websites like Wikipedia require financial support from their audience in order to continue operating.

In the end, blogging can prove to be an expensive deal. Especially when you are operating in a highly informative niche such as insurance, loan, and business, you will be requiring a dedicated team of academic writers who charges high for their writing services.

Drawing their salaries from blogging’s income isn’t just enough. But if your blog is truly valuable, you shouldn’t hesitate from accepting donations.

6. Sell other digital products.

In addition to selling ebooks, you may monetize your website by putting digital products on the shopping shelves. Some examples of these products are video tutorials, audio recordings, printable templates, themes, add-ons, and so on. Sell your digital product if you have the ability to do so and your audience finds it valuable. Almost every digital product is saleable if it serves a purpose.

Luckily, you can find multiple WordPress plugins to support you in this transition from blogging to e-commerce. These plugins come with a variety of features, such as a shopping cart, customer management, discount code support, and more.

7. Offer online courses

Converting your knowledge and experience into online courses that convince the audience to pay for them is an appealing choice if you have anything of value to pass on to them.

To teach a course through an online platform, "expert" status is not even required. You can make money off of your blog by selling online courses if you have sufficient expertise in a certain field and are willing to share that expertise with your audience.

For example, if you have a blog where you discuss cooking and have more repetitive users on your site, you may offer your readers to buy video culinary classes.

8. Sell Ebooks

It's the perfect example of how you can generate passive income with your blog. Bringing out an ebook on the site requires very little work on your part. It is not necessary for you to produce an entire ebook of 300 to 400 pages. That's your choice. But all you need is value creation; a buyer should never regret his or her decision to purchase this book from you.

If you have been blogging for some time already, you also have the option of creating an ebook out of your previous posts on your blog. Simply select the parts that have received the most attention on your site and compile them into a book. Alternatively, hire book writers, create your e-book product, and sell it to your audience on your blog.

As mentioned before, writing an ebook doesn't require a lot of work. However, once you have completed making the ebook, the next challenging step is to market and sell it. And this is exactly when owning a blog will prove beneficial.

You may advertise it to the readers of your blog, send an email to the people on your email list, and share it with the followers of your social media accounts. If you already have a sufficient amount of traffic, all you need to do is add a link to any call-to-action place or button where more people are likely to tune into your e-book.

9. Create restricted members-only content

Your most devoted readers are undoubtedly your prospective buyers, who are likely to pay you money in exchange for access to more of your blog's content. Your CMS (content management system, like WordPress) provides you with the ability to set up a section of the website that is accessible only to paid members, where they will obtain information in more detail.

Because you need to consistently produce premium material for your paying members, running a membership website may also involve significant financial expenses. But since it is a recurring revenue stream (subscriptions), paid content will have the potential to bring in a lot of money.

10. Start freelancing to earn money.

Freelancing is a common way to make money online, but blogging can take this money-making venture to the next level once your skills and abilities begin to become visible through the big page of your blog post.

To start making money as a freelancer, all you need to do is establish yourself as a professional on your blog; there's no need to invest anything in developing a digital shopfront. Simply create a separate menu section and advertise yourself or your services briefly.

What are the biggest monetization challenges for a new blogger?

Practically speaking, there’s no guarantee. If you are using forced methods to grow your blog online if you aren’t serving value to customers, rather than building your blog just for the fulfillment of a "money-making goal,"

Well, maybe you are heading towards an emotional breakdown.

The modern algorithm of search engines is smarter than ever. Any unethical or illogical practices may lead to a website’s termination, and if not, then maybe you will struggle to attract even a single user online.

And when it happens, the earning potential of a website drops automatically.

Keep in mind that when it comes to blogging, quality of traffic equals earning diversity.

If your blog is drawing targeted traffic, that means you are leading in a specific niche, and riches are built within niches.

But unfortunately, this is where most new bloggers struggle for their lives. Such as,

  1. They can’t decide on a niche they should write about.
  2. They aren’t focusing on branding.
  3. Not leveraging social media to drive more traffic

Conclusion

In addition to the discussed ways to earn money from blogging, there are dozens of other ways to create a passive income source from your blog. Blogging still exists and isn’t going anywhere in the future. So stay away from all the myths and people’s opinions about blogging. As we have seen, some bloggers are still making millions from a single blog. To be a successful blogger, all you need to do is pay attention to your content and traffic, and things will be sorted for you. Go ahead and make your first blog today.
