The first YouTube Labs program, currently available to Premium subscribers, offers AI-generated hosts who provide insight and stories as users listen to mixes and radio stations through YouTube Music. As YouTube describes:
“Explore our first experiment in the YouTube Music app – as you listen to radio & mixes, AI hosts will chime in with relevant stories and insights.”
Although some might question the value of this service, given that some listeners use Mix Radio to avoid radio chatter, YouTube is attempting to bring an element of context and engage users through the use of artificial intelligence “breaks.”
Connection to Broader Google AI Initiatives
This project is similar to Google Labs‘ “Daily Listen” AI project, which also incorporates artificial intelligence-driven content for audio.
Other projects within Google Labs include video creation, such as text-to-video generation and animation tools based on story outlines. All of these could be used to inform the future YouTube features.
