Meta Extends WhatsApp Status Ad Options

Meta Expands WhatsApp Status Ad Options

Meta extends WhatsApp Status ad options, giving businesses more ways to reach users and enhance engagement through the platform.

Meta is expanding its WhatsApp ad offering with new functionality that will enable advertisers to create click-to-message ads that direct through to a WhatsApp Status update, as opposed to opening a DM chat.

WhatsApp Status Ad Option Overview

Introduced in June, Meta launched ads in WhatsApp Status, allowing brands to slide full-screen promotions between updates from friends and family in its Status feature.

Meta also offers Click-to-Message ads on Facebook and Instagram, which allow businesses to start a conversation with potential customers from in-stream ads.

Now, Meta is providing an option for some advertisers to run an advertising campaign using a combination of both techniques.

According to Meta:

“You can create ads that click to WhatsApp and use the WhatsApp Status placement. Ads in WhatsApp Status will only appear in the Updates tab, which is the home of Status and Channels and is separate from personal chats and calls. When people click on your ad, they’re sent directly into a chat with your business on WhatsApp.”

That is to say, when users come across these ads on Facebook or Instagram, they will see a bigger full-screen ad that is more like an interstitial, and can swipe up on the ad if they want to be taken straight into a chat with that business.

Availability and Future Outlook

As WhatsApp is gaining popularity among brands, 100 million Americans now use the messaging app. This integration provides new paths toward engagement.

Click-to-message ads have trended well and been increasing in use by brands, so this is a nice bonus for Meta advertisers looking to expand their messaging strategies.

WhatsApp Status ads can’t be purchased everywhere (yet), but in those places, businesses will have a lot of ways to grab people’s attention and entice them into clicking to chat.

This update establishes WhatsApp’s place within Meta’s ecosystem and gives marketers an even greater arsenal of strategies to engage with customers.

Final Thought

The new click-to-WhatsApp Status ads from Meta combine immersive storytelling with direct chatting, providing businesses a unique way to tap into increasingly messaging-first audiences.
