Instagram Now Lets You Pin Your Own Comments on Posts

Instagram Will Now Enable You To Pin Your Own Comments

The new ‘Pin Your Comment’ feature will enable you to pin key replies, promote your ideas, and increase interaction on any post.

Instagram is expanding its comment pinning service by allowing users to pin their own comments on their posts, a new option that complements text captions and adds context directly within the comment thread.

Pinning Others’ Comments to Your Own

As of 2020, Instagram users can now pin up to three comments on their posts by other users.

This helps emphasize key feedback or responses. But so far, one could not stick his or her own remarks.

Mosseri has described the change:

“A couple of weeks ago in my AMA, somebody asked me why you can’t pin your own comment. And we thought about it and you should be able to pin your own comment, because the whole point of pinned comments is that you should be able to shape that comment thread into whatever you want, because it’s your post in the first place. So we’ve fixed it and now you can pin your own comments.”

Practical Uses for Pinned Self-Comments

Although some people may initially view this as a self-promotion tool, the update presents practical opportunities.

Users can now add more information, updates, or clarification directly into the comment stream, which may reach a wider audience than the post captions themselves.

There are no options to add clickable links to these comments, which would have been a game-changer. However, text and GIF-based remarks can still be used to add value to the posts and redirect the focus where needed.

Enhancing Engagement and Clarity

This new capability is convenient with:

  • Sending news on announcements.
  • Answering common questions.
  • Posting some more background or reactions to recent events.

Making your own comment further highlights these insights, and it is these that direct the audience in understanding and interaction.

Instagram began releasing this feature this week and is making it available to people worldwide gradually.

Bottom Line

This improvement provides a practical and subtle means by which creators and brands can control how conversations are conducted and keep critical messages to the top within their Instagram posts.
