Instagram tests links in post captions for paying users
Feature Being Tested with Meta Verified Subscribers
Instagram is testing a new feature that many users have requested for years. The platform is letting some creators to add links directly in the captions of their posts.
At the moment, the feature is available only to a small group of creators. These creators have been subscribed to Meta Verified.
If the test works well, it could make sharing links much easier. Creators will be able to send followers directly to websites, product pages, or other online content.
At present, most creators depend on the “link in bio” method. They usually ask followers to visit their profile page to find a link. Adding links in captions could remove that extra step and make posts more useful.
The Feature Instagram Once Avoided
For many years, Instagram avoided adding links to captions. The company believed that too many links could change the nature of the platform.
Adam Mosseri had earlier explained this concern. He said clickable links could shift Instagram away from its focus on visuals.
The platform was built around photos and videos. If links became common in captions, the app could start looking more like a news or publishing platform.
Because of this view, Instagram limited links to profile bios, stories, and paid advertisements. Regular posts did not allow clickable links.
But the company now appears more open to testing the idea.
Test Comes with Strict Limits
Instagram confirmed that the feature is being tested with a small number of creators.
There are also clear limits on how it can be used. Creators in the test group can add up to 10 links per month in their captions.
The limit is meant to keep the feed from filling up with promotional content. Instagram wants to make sure the platform still feels focused on visuals and creativity.
According to creator Andrea Valeria, who is part of the trial, the feature is still very restricted. Only selected creators with Meta Verified accounts can use it.
Business accounts and publishers are not included in the test for now.
New Opportunities for Creators and Brands
Even with these limits, the feature could bring new opportunities.
Clickable links make it easier for creators to promote products or share affiliate pages. They can also guide followers to blogs, online stores, or other platforms.
This could increase the value of sponsored posts. Brands may find it easier to work with creators who can place direct links inside captions.
Instead of asking followers to search for a link, the creator can simply include it in the post.
Some companies and publishers may also partner with creators to share links through paid collaborations.
A Push to Grow Meta Verified
The test may also help increase interest in Meta Verified.
Meta launched the paid verification service in 2023. The program offers account verification, improved customer support, and extra tools for creators.
Since then, it has become a new revenue stream for the company.
Meta’s financial report for 2025 showed that its “Other” revenue category earned $801 million in the fourth quarter. This category includes revenue from services like Meta Verified.
The company has not shared exact numbers. However, estimates suggest that millions of users across Facebook and Instagram are now paying for the subscription.
Still an Early Experiment
Instagram has not confirmed whether links in captions will become a permanent feature.
For now, the option remains a limited experiment with selected creators.
Still, the move is important. If the feature expands, it could change how creators share information and promote products on the platform.
For many users, it may finally bring a feature they have been waiting for.
