Bing’s AI Dashboard Gets Smarter with New Query Mapping Feature

Bing’s AI Dashboard

A Missing Link That Can Finally Fall into Place

Microsoft has gone ahead and quietly improved its Bing Webmaster Tools with a small but mostly a meaningful update. The AI Performance dashboard now enables you to connect grounding queries with the exact pages they cite.

Until now, these two pieces of data were sitting apart. You could see which queries the AI system used and which pages were cited, but with no standard way to connect them.

That gap made it harder to understand how content was actually being picked up. This update helps change that in a simple and useful way.

How the Feature Works in Practice?

The new mapping option enables and lets you explore the data in both directions. Click on a grounding query and you are able to see the pages linked to it.

Click on a page and you are able to trace back to the queries that triggered its citations.

This sounds basic, but it goes on to add real clarity. Grounding queries are not the same as what users type into search.

They are created by the AI system while you are forming answers. Knowing which of these queries point to your pages gives you a better sense of how your content is being understood and used.

It also shows patterns. One query may connect to several pages, and one page may appear across different queries. That overlap can help identify strong content and areas that could go on to need refinement.

Still Early, Still Limited

The dashboard remains in public preview, so it is not able to offer a complete picture yet. The data only reflects a portion of citation activity, not everything that is happening behind the scenes.

There is also no visibility into clicks. You can see where your content is cited, but not able to understand whether users are actually visiting your site from those mentions. That remains a key missing piece.

A Quiet but Useful Step Forward

While Google continues to fold AI insights into its existing reports, it has not been able to introduce a dedicated way to track citations at this level.

This update may not look dramatic, but it brings much-needed clarity. For publishers trying to make sense of AI-driven search, even these small steps can go on to make a real difference.
