YouTube Extends Gift Goals To Drive More Live-Stream Donations

YouTube’s Gift Goals feature provides extended support for live stream creators, enabling them to set goals and encourage donations during live sessions.

YouTube is working on an update to its gift goals feature as an incentive for increased donations during live streams. With this expanded “gift goals,” creators can set a donation threshold and motivate their followers with a reward once the targeted threshold is reached.

How Gift Goals Work

As described by YouTube,

“We’re experimenting with gift goals, a new feature that expands the goals feature to vertical live streams. Creators in the experiment will be able to set a target gift amount and pick a timeframe to achieve the goal before sharing it with their viewers. With gift goals creators get a new way to engage with their audience and build community.”

This feature enables live stream creators to gamify participation and enhance community building during their streams.

YouTube added the ability to set donation goals with rewards last year. Live stream and Super Chat streamer goals were limited to specific sections. Now, this is set to change for all live stream creators.

More Engagement Tools Being Developed

Additionally, YouTube is exploring an engagement leaderboard for live streams that ranks viewers based on their level of interaction.

At the same time, the platform is implementing “Jewels,” its new live donation feature, which allows for live fan payments similar to gems for supporting creators.

The aim of “Jewels” is to incite competition for donations, prompting audiences to outdo one another financially and demonstrate their commitment as super fans.

By gamifying donation-based engagement, these features are poised to increase revenue for creators from live streams significantly. This strategy not only boosts finances but also helps deepen the sense of community around the watched content.

Availability

Currently, YouTube is piloting gift goals on vertical live streams on mobile in the U.S. Other regions will be included later.
