YouTube Rolls Out Effects Maker for Shorts, New Comment Controls
YouTube rolls out Effects Maker for shorts, which allows users to design custom images and enhance Comment Controls to improve community management.
YouTube has launched a new Effect Maker option, enabling creators to design, publish, and control custom-made effects in Shorts videos.
In addition to this, YouTube is expanding access to its “Effects Maker” option, allowing more creators to build, publish, and manage custom effects for Shorts.

Empowering Creativity on Shorts
The brand new Effects Maker tool offers creators tools that are similar to Snapchat’s Lens Studio, allowing the creation of visually engaging effects that are specifically tailored to shorts.
After an entire year of testing and feature expansion, YouTube is now broadening access to the tool to everyone who is eligible for the advanced features.
YouTube says:
“[Effects Maker] is only available on desktop for now, and we don’t have specifics on expansion to mobile, but we’ll keep you posted. When you publish an effect, it will be available to all users that are eligible to create shorts.”
Creators can show their customized designs on channels, and YouTube is investigating generative AI features to increase the creative possibilities.

This is a huge increase in the creative possibilities, which will help creators to increase the visibility of their channels through unique and engaging visual experiences.
Enhanced Comment Controls
Alongside the tools for creativity, YouTube is improving comment moderation by introducing the ability to perform bulk actions within YouTube Studio.
“Up until now, creators could only select a limited number of comments to action on at one time. Now, we’re adding the ability for creators to select all comments and take action, like ‘remove’ or ‘report.’”
To further streamline channel management, YouTube is also adding a new option to limit comments exclusively to subscribers.

These combined comment management options help maintain a civil community while prioritizing your subscribers’ voices. YouTube plans to expand the limit to only subscribers on individual videos in the future update.
Smarter Brand Collaboration Tagging
YouTube’s BrandConnect tool has also received an upgrade, which will allow creators to include brands directly in video uploads or while editing content already created.

As you can see, these examples demonstrate the new integration for managing brand collaborations within the composer flow. According to YouTube, this feature provides creators greater control by allowing them to select specific content for advertisers, rather than granting access to their entire channel.
YouTube Explains:
“This also enables advertisers to promote a creator’s sponsored content to a wider audience via Partnership Ads, which increase the visibility of the collaboration and can drive additional traffic to a creator’s channel through a ‘Subscribe’ button, which will be included in the ad. Creators with branded mentions will have increased visibility in the advertisers’ Creator Partnerships Hub, and may be suggested to new brands for additional campaigns.”
Advertisers will also gain access to performance data for tagged clips, providing greater collaboration oversight. This feature will be available globally within the YouTube main app and YouTube Studio for all partners in the YouTube Partner Program.
“Eligible creators can find this feature in the paid promotion and brand section under video details.”
If you’re looking to keep up-to-date with the creation of content and growth of brands on YouTube, these features can provide an opportunity to explore new ways of doing so.
Final Thoughts
The updates give creators more tools to develop and efficiently manage their channels. Effects Maker offers new possibilities to engage creatively on Shorts, as well as enhanced comment control and brand collaboration tagging improve collaboration opportunities and operational control.
