To coincide with the launch of AI-generated backgrounds for video chats, as well as new filters and effects for more creativity and fun in private video conversations, WhatsApp today unveiled a compelling selection of backgrounds, filters, and effects that you can use to transform your video chats.

You can now set yourself in a WhatsApp background in any setting of your choice, creating a more engaging and dynamic way to enhance your video calls.

Expanding WhatsApp’s Creative Communication Features

This update builds on WhatsApp’s recent improvements from February, when the platform added a range of new chat themes, including chat customizations launched earlier this year, such as colorful chat themes and new message bubbles.

However, it left out AI-generated backgrounds, a feature already available in other Meta apps. Instagram has previously featured AI-generated backgrounds, and now WhatsApp is the latest addition to the pack as Meta expands its generative AI portfolio across its ecosystem.

The new presets include a selection of beach scenes, forests, and others, allowing you to switch backgrounds during video calls with minimal effort, just in case your partner’s camera is in the same room as you.

While WhatsApp is often used for personal chats where a change of background may not be as significant, these tools also fit nicely into Meta’s plan to define WhatsApp as a business-oriented chat platform.
