Threads Offers Creators To Join Its New Communities Element

Threads Invites Creators To Join Its New Communities

Threads offers creators to join its new Communities feature, a dedicated space for group discussions, shared interests, and deeper audience engagement.

With the addition of dedicated group discussion communities in the app, Threads is intensifying its competition with X. Invitations to join these focused group chats, organized by topic, are now being rolled out to selected Threads users.

Early Access and User Invitations

As you can see in this example from one of the posts by Threads user @rayofsuunshine, some of the users have received emailed invitations from Threads.

As per the note:

“Communities help you find and connect with your people […] and soon, there’ll be more features that recognize the active voices in a community. We will be looking at posts that give feedback on this new experience to keep improving and plan to share more about what’s next for communities soon.”

In a statement regarding the launch, Threads chief Adam Mosseri said that the team is still working on making communities a central part of the experience.

Open Access and Community Features

While access was initially limited via invites, Threads users can now step into communities built around specific interests. When you join a community, the topic will appear on your Threads profile. Communities can be found quickly via a left-hand navigation menu that users can rearrange or set as a default community feed.

Community posts are only available in the community feed or in the general “For you” feed of users and are tagged as such, substituting for authentic community content.

While Threads has been working on its Communities feature for at least a year now, with early tests conducted last year, and the backend renovations showcasing additional community-centric utilities as it develops the original function.

The strategy is about incentivising users to be more engaged (connecting people based on mutual interests or conversations).

Market Demand Validated by X’s Community Growth

X stated in March that time spent within communities was up 600% year-over-year, with some 650,000 community posts made each day, highlighting an evident user hunger for dedicated, topic-specific spaces.

It is a brilliant grab for Threads in the real-time group conversation space. Communities and Events. Early communities can be an essential milestone for users seeking a new way to discover relevant followers and conversations that align with their interests.

Now that new data shows Threads may have more daily active users than X right now, a successful communities rollout could make Threads the social media app for the most active discussions between groups of people.

Final Thought

It will be interesting to see whether this effort increases the level of engagement on Threads and eventually pulls the competitive needle back into its favor. Users who want a more focused approach should check current communities related to their topics of interest and consider joining the conversation.
