Instagram Rolls Out More DM Management Options

Instagram is developing new DM management features to enable you to filter, organize, and sort messages more efficiently than ever before.

Instagram is expanding its direct messaging (DM) management features to enable users to organize their inboxes more effectively and prioritize them as usage patterns evolve.

New Filters Make Sorting Messages Easier

A wider variety of DM filters is now available to users, where you can sort by:

• Story replies
• Unread
• Unanswered
• Followers
• Verified users

Although Instagram has already introduced specific filters, such as the Verified filter, to Creator accounts last November, this addition will expand these filtering features to a larger group of users, helping to control messages more effectively.

Customizable Shortcuts and Filter Controls

Instagram is also more controllable, as it is possible to add or delete filters (except for Requests) and custom shortcut pills by rearranging them in the inbox.

With this personalization, users can access the most relevant conversations more easily and quickly.

Introducing DM Folders

The other new option is the ability to create custom DM folders through the Folders setting. This facilitates the control and organization of messages, particularly when the user has a high DM volume.

The reforms primarily involve administrative improvements aimed at simplifying the work of users overwhelmed by messages, rather than altering the functionality of apps.

As the main feed and Stories have faded as the key engagement medium on Instagram, these tools are opportune when creators and brands look to engage their audiences at the point of maximum activity.

Looking Forward

Instagram will launch these DM management tools to every Professional account and personal account with more than 100K followers, and help those whose communication and community-building efforts rely extensively on DMs.
