Google Q3 Report: AI Mode, AI Overviews Boost Total Search Usage
Google’s Q3 report reveals that AI Mode, AI Overviews boost total search usage and interactions between users across its platforms.
Google uses its Q3 earnings call to confirm that the AI-powered features it offers are increasing the use of its search engine instead of reducing traditional searches. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai described this period as an “expansionary moment for Search,” insisting the fact that AI features “highlight the web” and result in “billions of clicks to sites every day.”
AI Mode and AI Overviews Drive Query Growth
Pichai revealed a significant increase in the use of AI Mode in the U.S. and daily queries increasing by a third in the last quarter. Google increased AI Mode globally, supporting 40 languages, and more than 75 million active users daily.
More than 100 enhancements were released during the quarter of Q3 alone. AI Mode is credited with the driving force behind the incremental growth in search queries.
AI Overviews were also a significant contributor to the overall performance of AI, with noticeable improvements in Q3 and specifically among users of younger age, which reinforces AI’s ability to motivate greater search engagement.
Revenue Milestones and YouTube Highlights
Alphabet announced $102.3 billion of revenue. This is the first quarterly results that exceeded $100 billion. Profits generated from “Google Search & other” was $56.6 billion in the quarter, an increase from $49.4 billion in the previous year.
The revenue from YouTube ads was $10.26 billion in Q3.
Pichai says:
“YouTube has remained number one in streaming watch time in the U.S. for more than two years, according to Nielsen.”
In addition, Parachi said that in the U.S.:
“Shorts now earn more revenue per watch hour than traditional in-stream.”
Strategic Insights and Market Implications
Google’s message to investors is simple AI-powered features increase the use of search and changing the distribution of queries rather than reducing it.
The absence of reporting directly on clicks that are outbound from AI interfaces suggests that measuring is not as effective and requires marketers to use the company’s own analytics to assess the its impact.
The continued growth of commercial queries is a strong reason to continue expenditure on Google as AI-led search is increasing as a primary engagement factor.
Looking Ahead
Google intends to continue to innovate with the release of Gemini 3.0 which is expected to improve AI Mode and AI Overviews featuring more advanced AI modeling.
Google also describes Chrome in the role of “a browser powered by AI,” and will be announcing new Gemini integrations as well as “more agentic capabilities” soon.
Capital expenditure guidance is a reflection of this strategy’s priority as Google increasing its capex 2025 estimate to $91-$93 billion. aiding infrastructure development as well as AI technology development.
Bottom Line
Google’s Q3 results highlight the impact of AI on the engagement of users and monetization, indicating an increase in query volume and the evolution of user experiences fueled by generative AI.
