Ahrefs Acquires Detailed.com and SEO Extension; Founder Joins Company

Ahrefs Acquires Detailed.com

Ahrefs acquires Detailed.com and its SEO Extension, with founder Glen Allsopp joining the company full-time. Current tools will remain free for all users.

Ahrefs has announced the acquisition of Detailed.com and its popular Detailed SEO Extension, expanding its suite of SEO tools while bringing Detailed’s founder, Glen Allsopp, on board full-time.

Ahrefs Acquires Detailed.com and Extension

The deal includes the Detailed website and browser extension, as well as other related domains and extensions.

Since launching in 2020, Detailed.com has established a reputation for its in-depth, data-driven blog posts on SEO research and best practices. This is highlighted by its reviews of how just a handful of companies operate extensive networks of sites on which they rank.

Over the past year, Detailed.com attracted 970,000 unique visitors, while the Detailed SEO Extension serves over 450,000 weekly Chrome users and about 7,000 Firefox users.

Features of the Detailed SEO Extension

This extension simplifies both page-level SEO audits by displaying the following information on-page in a single panel.

  • Title and meta tags
  • Heading structures
  • Robots directives
  • Schema markup

Additional tools include:

  • Highlighting nofollow links
  • Inspecting hreflang tags
  • Viewing HTTP status codes
  • Extracting People Also Ask results
  • Switching user agents to Googlebot

and quickly accessing URLs in popular SEO research platforms.

Extension Will Remain Free

The extension will remain permanently free along with all its current features, as confirmed by Glen Allsopp. If premium features get introduced in the future, they will be additive and will not block existing functionality behind a paywall. Currently, no paid tiers are planned.

The extension will retain its original Detailed SEO Extension branding and will still function as it is, as “Detailed, an Ahrefs brand.” No action is needed for users as updates will be rolled out through the regular release channel in the usual Chrome and Firefox stores.

Founder’s Perspective

Allsopp shared:

“At a time when so much is happening in SEO and digital marketing as a whole, I want to be at the forefront of the work that helps companies reach more of their target audience. Ahrefs provides tools, data and insights I’ve used in my own business for years, so to be joining the team behind that is really exciting.”

Currently, the financial details of the acquisition are not disclosed. The new addition adds a popular browser tool and an article-based content brand to Ahref’s growing portfolio.

Ahrefs plans to incorporate and extend existing extension functionality, proposing that SEOs will experience faster build-out times on features related to site auditing, on-page analysis, and competitive research.

Final Thought

Ahrefs’ latest move strengthens its position as a comprehensive SEO platform, offering users enhanced tools backed by data-driven insights and a growing community of digital marketers.
